Hi All! I'm really looking forward to seeing you again. Predictably enough I went to art school (at the University of Wisconsin), started out as a scientific illustrator at Columbia University's Earth science research institution, have been running around the world doing geoscience ever since while anchored doing electron microscopy in academia (Columbia till 2004, now Drexel U in Philly), working on a cool (controversial) cosmic impact project with Columbia colleague and others - which got me to a 5-day camping expedition at the epicenter of Tunguska, Siberia last June on the centennial anniversary of the still-mysterious fireball explosion of 1908 - probably a meteor), currently living in a secluded bit of nature in the woods of PA and training into Philly most days, still looking for that elusive family (I must be terminally neurotic not to have landed one by now but I'll never give up!)....

School Story:

Gosh. Those musicals were great! L'il Abner, if I recall, and Flower Drum Song... Having to make a quick change backstage and discovering someone else needed to do the same - ack! a boy! Oh no! We had no time to consider, so just shrugged at each other and stripped to undies to re-costume. What innocent days, to have that 'embarrassment' seared into my brain, so big at the time and so mild-to-nonexistent by today's standards. Another memory just set off - Joe Ruggerio (did I spell that right Joe?) singing "Life is Just a Bowl of Cherries" at a NYC audition... It's coming back now ... Those great chemistry classes, with manuscripts of a new textbook arriving in sections as we progressed, and the best teacher ever - Mr - Mr - senior moment... and a sexy lady math teacher... I'll think of a lot more as soon as I leave this website

A deck break from doing chemical oceanography on the research vessel Gould off Palmer Station, Antarctica in 2003. Very hard work in horrible accommodations with awful food but I really miss it. Starting to do cruise lecturing instead - much comfier and tastier but just not the same as doing Real Science.

On a rainy July day in beautiful downtown Siberia, netted against the notorious 'flying alligator' mosquitoes, pointing to one of the original trees felled in 1908 by the mysterious Tunguska fireball still being studied, including by the Holocene Impact Working Group, which I'm a founding member of and conduct the analytical electron microscopy for. Controversial work, but really rewarding (though not, alas, financially - too controversial to get funded - just finally paid off this trip!)
